The political and military choice of the Israeli authorities to negotiate nothing must coexist with the anguish and concern of public opinion, particularly that of the families of the hostages. Illustration with the testimony of a woman, whose mother and daughter were captured in the kibbutz of Nir Oz.
This seaside resort on the Dead Sea became this woman’s refuge. Franco-Israeli, she was evacuated after the attack on her kibbutz. She no longer has any news from her 12-year-old daughter, nor from her 80-year-old mother. “I contacted my sister, she told me ‘it’s a massacre in Nir Oz. There was a massacre, full of dead and missing people’. (…) Can you imagine your daughter being taken hostage by a terrorist ?”, she asks.
Hanging on the phone
“I’m sure she feels that I’m with her.”, she adds. Hanging on the phone waiting for the slightest information, she finally receives a call. His mother and daughter are not on the list of victims. “They are missing and kidnapped. Not dead. (…) They are alive, but this is the first official news I have had”she says. “I just want them out of there, that’s all. There’s no other choice,” she continues.
