The 37th Victoires de la Musique are to follow on the evening of Friday February 11, live on France 2. Among the artists nominated in the Male Revelation category, the group Terrenoire could well win the day. It owes its name to a working-class district of Saint Etienne (Loire).

Bewitching and poetic, the music of Terrenoire takes the listener to the district of Saint-Etienne (Loire) to which it owes its name, and where the two brothers grew up. “We found the word Territory beautiful, too. There is something poetic about it. This is where we found energy, where people can also understand where our music comes from”confides Raphaël Herrerias, member of the Terrenoire group.

Saint-Etienne, mining land long reputed to be more nurturing for footballers than for musicians. The Greens have since lost their luster and the mines, like the factories, have closed. The city had to reinvent itself, perhaps leaving more room for artists. “There are empty spaces in this city, there are empty wastelands, apartments that have been emptied, and that leaves room for imaginations”, explains Raphaël Herrerias. If the group had to go into exile in Paris to make a career, it frequently returns to the country, and in particular to Le Fil, the current music hall which has helped them grow, as it has done for other artists.
