This is good news for French households. The tax scale has been revised so as not to penalize the French who have benefited from a salary increase to cope with inflation. Journalist Sophie Lanson, present on the set of 12/13, Monday September 26, takes stock.

The tax schedule has been reviewed by the government. “There are several income brackets, each taxed differently according to a scale. For example, on the first bracket, it’s 0%, no taxes. On the second, it’s 11%, on the third , 30%. Only here, to compensate for inflation and the 5.4% rise in prices, wages have increased by only 3.4% on average”, explains journalist Sophie Lanson, present on the set of 12/13, Monday, September 26. However, if the tax scale is not indexed to inflation, this can automatically tip some French people into higher brackets.

What will change is therefore the income threshold, that is to say the rocker to switch from one bracket to another. “For example, today in 2022, the first bracket is defined between 0 and 10,225 euros of income”, continues the journalist. With indexation, the threshold is raised to 10,778 euros. Thus, a person with the minimum wage, until now non-taxable, will remain so and will not pay 130 euros in taxes.
