“The Symphony of Monsters”, Marc Levy

Surprise ! Who thought they would have to mourn the loss of “9” after reading Noah will be reassured and delighted to discover that the destiny of these computer hackers working for justice and freedom continues after the trilogy. They are indeed returning to service in the 25e novel by Marc Levy, The Symphony of Monsters, where they “agreed” to not be directly in the spotlight. The heart of the story beats rather to the rhythm of that of Valentyn, 9 years old. Who lives in the occupied zone, in today’s Ukraine. Who is kidnapped and, like many other children, taken to an orphanage, where they will unlearn their life to become “good little Russians”. But that’s without taking into account the tenacity of Lilya and Veronika, respectively the kid’s big sister and mother. Whose quest will intersect with that of the “9”. Burning with current events, painful in that way, the novel takes the time to say and make people feel, before tumbling towards the conclusion. Fans of “9” will not be disoriented: they already know that Marc Levy can give in something other than romance.
