The Swiss from Valence, and the competition for the best Swiss Amateur

Special Gastronomic Heritage program, this morning!

We received the Grand Master of the Confrérie du Suisse de Valence, Jean-Luc Chaumont, the Pastry Chef-Chocolatier Jean-Charles Giraud and the Baker Laurent Serre.

All three settled in Valence, we were able to know the legend of the origin of this specialty of soft shortcrust pastry, flavored with candied oranges….Which represents the famous Swiss guards of the Pope. The bakers of Valence having, more than 150 years ago, wanted to pay homage to Pope Pius VI.

It is said, in fact, that a baker from Valence would have liked to pay homage to the Swiss guards of the Vatican who accompanied the remains of Pope Pius VI who died in Valence in 1799. Every year, on Palm Sunday, the knights of the brotherhood of Swiss of Valence participate in a blessing in the Saint Apollinaire cathedral where the heart of Pope Pius VI rests, followed by a moment of sharing around the Swiss.

What is Swiss Valencia, how to make it? Our guests have given us their recipe, tips and tricks, so that you too can become a Swiss specialist from Valence. Find them, in replay HERE

In addition, the Brotherhood of the Swiss of Valence, organizes, within the framework of the “Valence en Gastronomie Festival” (9,10,11 September 2022), a great competition, reserved for amateurs, of the best and most beautiful Swiss of Valence.
