The movement expands little by little. Several nuclear power plants, on strike for a salary increase, renewed their movement for the weekend, Friday, October 14, AFP learned from the CGT.

Several nuclear power plants have been facing strikes for wages for several weeks, including Tricastin (Drôme), Cruas (Ardèche), Bugey (Ain) and Cattenom (Moselle). Thursday, the Gravelines power plant (North), the most powerful in Western Europe, joined the mobilization. The Belleville-sur-Loire (Cher) power plant has joined the mobilization “since this morning”said Friday to AFP Virginie Neumayer, of the FNME-CGT.

This movement aims to put pressure on the wage negotiations of companies in the energy sector, and in particular EDF, where a first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.

At this stage, this strike has no impact on the general public and weighs mainly on EDF’s finances. However, she could “impact the calendar” to make nuclear units available on the network. Most of the power plants on strike are indeed subject to maintenance operations, said Claude Martin, of the FNME-CGT.

“There are slices that are in the reload phase, following revisions and so they are supposed to come back to the network quickly, but currently the strike is hitting these restarts”, continued Claude Martin. The latter warned of the impact this could have on the amount of energy available in France in January and February, during the coldest period of winter.
