After the collision between two trains which left at least 38 dead and more than 80 injured, Wednesday, March 1, in Greece, near Larissa, the Greeks are wondering who are responsible for this tragedy. “More than fifteen hours after the collision, 70 firefighters are still in the rubble, without any hope however at this time of finding survivors”says journalist Claire Verove, on site for the 20 Hours.

A human error, but the State also pointed the finger

Across the country, the anger is immense, the disaster being avoidable. “According to the first elements of the investigation, there was no automatic system to regulate the trains, everything was done manually by the station masters”, relates the journalist. One of them was arrested this afternoon and admitted fatal human error. “Less than a month ago, the unions warned that if nothing was done, if no action was taken, of an imminent catastrophe”, retains Claire Verove. Faced with the scale of the controversy, the Minister of Transport had no choice but to resign this afternoon, recognizing the responsibility of the State.
