The SPVM is looking for other victims | A man suspected of a series of sexual assaults

A 28-year-old man allegedly raped at least three women by drugging them after meeting them on the Tinder app. He would have taken advantage of the fact that they were unconscious to film them and steal some of their property. The authorities believe that Samuel Moderie may have had other victims via the same modus operandi.

The alleged attacker was arrested on Wednesday and appeared the following day. He faces charges of sexual assault and administering a noxious substance. He remains detained.

The meetings with the victims would have taken place between July 2022 and January 2023, confirmed Commander Lyne Lemay, of the Sexual Assault Section of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), during a press briefing. “He allegedly filmed the victims after drugging them without their knowledge. […] I would like to underline the courage of the victims. It is thanks to their testimony that we can prevent him from making new victims. »

Samuel Moderie would have proceeded in the same way during separate meetings with the targeted women. He reportedly got in touch with his victims through the dating app Tinder. He allegedly sexually assaulted three women at three separate events on Fridays 1er July and December 16, 2022 as well as Friday, January 6. The suspect would have gone to his victims and administered a drug to them without their knowledge. Once the women were unconscious, he allegedly sexually assaulted them and stole property. The events would have happened in Montreal, McMasterville and Saint-Jérôme.

Commander Lemay did not advance on the type of drug administered to the women who filed the complaint.

The investigation showed that the suspect could also have assaulted two other women in the same way. The SPVM invites the victims of the young man to come forward. “Victims may not know they were assaulted, since they were unconscious,” said Lyne Lemay.

The suspect already had a criminal record. He had been sentenced to 2 years for a sexual assault committed in Saint-Jérôme in 2019. He was also on probation in connection with this crime at the time the crimes were allegedly committed. Nothing prohibited him from having access to dating sites, so he would not have broken any conditions.

Samuel Moderie is a white-skinned man. He is 1.78m tall and weighs 80kg. He has brown hair and eyes. He sports tattoos on his chest and right arm.

The investigation was conducted by the Sexual Assault Section of the SPVM in collaboration with the Régie intermunicipale de police Richelieu-Saint-Laurent, the Saint-Jérôme police service and the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Anyone who may have been a victim or who knows someone who may have been a victim of Samuel Moderie is invited to go to their local police station, call 514 280-8502 or contact 911 to file an official complaint. or to make a declaration to that effect.
