The situation is “stabilized”, affirms, Saturday July 16, on franceinfo Patrick Davet, the mayor of La Teste-de-Buch (Gironde), about the fire which affects his commune. The fire which broke out overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday has already burned 3,150 hectares of forest, without causing any casualties. “There is no aggravation, everything is under surveillance with quite hot spots, details the chosen one. It’s a bit secure. I say a little, because all it takes is for the wind to turn suddenly… We are afraid that it will blow over the Landes massif. Yesterday we made firebreaks 50 meters wide to slow down and be offensive vis-à-vis the fire. The situation is worrying, but we have a lot of hope. This is not an exact science.”

Concerning the origin of fire, Patrick Davet confirms what Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said: “He is a young, local, who went on the track in the forest, his car broke down, the fire started… In this place, there is little network, he had to travel two kilometers on foot and the fire started.” “He is not very well at the moment, we will support him”adds the chosen one.
Already learning the lessons of the disaster, the mayor estimates that it will take more than “serious” in the management of access to the forest: “If it had been cleaned, access would have been easier and we might not be in this situation. It will be my job afterwards”.
