This is not the first time that director Alain Françon has tackled Marivaux, as he had already staged La Double Inconstance with a fine cast, notably François Cluzet.
He admits to having missed Marivaux’s message a little during this first experience, but he had the opportunity to be able to reread plays and therefore finally decided to stage “The second surprise of love”.
In this play, a marquise and a knight will fall in love, without really being aware of it. It’s more of a “friendship” relationship that will develop between them, before things get more serious.
