In Corrèze, the blueberry harvest has started a little early, and the season promises to be exceptional.
One by one, the precious blue berries are carefully picked. In Saint-Exupéry-Les-Roches (Corrèze), the blueberry harvest began two weeks ago, and should last until August. In an orchard, the season promises to be exceptional, with a yield of eight tonnes per hectare. “This year is a good year because there has been no climatic accident so far, whether frost or hail”explains Jean-Robert Loge, blueberry adviser at the Chamber of Agriculture.
Established in Corrèze in the 1960s, this fruit finds everything it needs here: acid soils rich in organic matter and a favorable climate. A few years ago, André Meschin chose this culture as an additional activity. Now retired, he closely monitors his production. Several times a week, this producer from Corrèze delivers his harvest to a cooperative where, last year, more than 30 tonnes of blueberries were packaged before being marketed.
