The SAQ potentially on strike on April 24 and 25, 2024

The 5,000 employees of the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) are threatening to go on strike on Wednesday and Thursday, the union that represents them warned on Monday. The latter indicated that “unless significant progress is made at the negotiating table” between now and then, he will “execute his strike mandate obtained last month”.

The Union of Store and Office Employees (SEMB-SAQ-CSN) affirmed, in a press release, that it was “dissatisfied with the progress of the talks, which are still at the normative aspects of the convention”.

Among the union members’ demands, there are notably protections against position abolitions, faster access to insurance, the addition of permanent positions, better access to training and the possibility of “preparing orders placed in store on the Internet “.

In the event of a strike, access to branches may be limited. SAQ management declared by email that a “business continuity plan is ready to be deployed” to avoid the total closure of the network.

“We are currently focusing our energies on the discussions that are still ongoing. We were at the negotiating table today and a session is planned for tomorrow,” responded the state-owned company.

Further details will follow.
