Will Sbornaya participate in the qualifying play-offs for the 2022 World Cup at the end of March? Thursday, March 3, the Russian Football Federation has, in any case, decided to challenge before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) its exclusion from the World Cup and all international competitions. This was proclaimed by Fifa and UEFA on Monday, in reaction to the invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian Federation believes that Fifa and UEFA had no “no legal basis” to record this withdrawal, decided “under pressure” rival federations, such as the Polish association. She also regrets not having been able to present her position before the authorities.

The Russian selection, second in its qualifying group behind Croatia, qualified for the World Cup play-offs in Qatar. She must face Poland – who refused to play the match – on March 24 then, in the event of victory, Sweden or the Czech Republic on March 29. Faced with this limited deadline, the Federation asked “an accelerated procedure” at CAS.
