An alert was published by the Ministry of Public Security to evacuate the municipalities of Chute-Saint-Philippe and Lac-des-Écorces, located in the Laurentians, due to the risk of the Morier dike breaking.
The ministry is asking residents of these two areas to evacuate to the Jacques Lesage Sports Center in Mont-Laurier and to follow the directives of local authorities.
On its Facebook page, the municipality of Chute-Saint-Philippe indicated that the evacuation was due to “existing dangers following inspections of the infrastructure of the Kiamika dam, Morier dike.” All people located in the areas bordering the Kiamika River must evacuate immediately, adds the municipality.
Residents should anticipate that they will not have access to their residence for the next five days.

According to the Quebec Ministry of the Environment website, the Morier dike was built in 1954. It has an area of 4,248 hectares and has a retention capacity of 382,000,000 m3the equivalent of more than 100,000 Olympic swimming pools.
