Vast bays, forests, exceptional beaches… The garden route in South Africa is an essential stopover for nature lovers.

Between the Indian Ocean and the mountains of the Western Cape, the most beautiful landscapes in South Africa are revealed, with the garden route. It crosses deep gorges, runs along vast bays and attracts nature lovers. French people treat themselves to a week of escape on the 300 km of the garden route. They first stop at Tsitsikamma National Park, where they will kayak in a steep river.

More than 100,000 tourists per year

Others prefer to hike in primary forests, which can be home to 600-year-old trees. The garden route also passes through the seaside town of Plettenberg Bay. The first Portuguese ships docked on these shores in the 15th century. At the time, they had to go around Africa to trade in India. The Dutch took advantage of this stopover to exploit local resources, particularly wood. More than 100,000 tourists visit the garden route every year.
