Everyone knows the story of Anne Frank through the publication of her diary recounting her life and that of her family, who died in the Nazi camps. But who denounced the teenager in 1944? An investigation directs the track towards a Jewish notary who would have delivered them to save his own family.

August 4, 1944 in Amsterdam (Netherlands), Anne Frank and her family are arrested by the Nazis. For two years, he was hidden away from the Nazi occupiers. Who betrayed them? A team of investigators, led by a former FBI, resumed the investigations. An anonymous letter was thus found and designates a Jewish notary as the author of this denunciation. He would have communicated this information to the Jews to protect his family. “When Van Der Derg lost a whole series of protections that prevented him from being sent to the camps, he had to give the Nazis valuable information so that he and his wife remained safe”, says Vincent Pankoke, a former FBI agent.

This new hypothesis is welcomed with great caution, because we cannot say with certainty this version of the story. There are still pieces missing from the puzzle. Anne Frank recounts in her diary her stolen youth and her fear of the Nazis. But knowing who denounced him should not make us forget the real people responsible for this tragedy.
