The resources of Restos du Cœur are dwindling, leading to refusals of food aid. More than ever, volunteers are counting on in-store collections, which begin Friday March 1st.

In a Restos du Cœur center, near Metz (Lorraine), the number of beneficiaries has never been so large and has increased by 30% in one year. Volunteers are counting on national collections in supermarkets, which start Friday March 1st. In fact, a third of the food distributed comes from donations and collections. In recent months, the Restos du Cœur have warned of the precariousness of their situation.

More than 110,000 people refused this winter

Their resources are dwindling. As a result, in Bastia (Haute-Corse) the rate of refusal of food aid is increasingly high and will rise to 13% in 2024. The situation continues to get worse. At the national level, restaurants had to refuse more than 110,000 people this winter. “Over time, we are very far from having returned to a situation of balance”, alerts a member. The volunteers, scattered across the collection’s 7,500 partner stores, hope to collect up to 9,000 tonnes of non-perishable data and hygiene products.
