The House of Representatives must vote on Saturday on several important aid measures. This concerns a few billion for Taiwan, 23 billion for Israel, and above all the 61 billion in aid promised to Ukraine, so crucial for the continuation of the conflict.

American Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced on April 2, 2024 during his visit to Paris, the vote of the House of Representatives concerning the release of aid to Taiwan, Israel and especially to Ukraine, will take place at the end of parliamentary recess. Here we are, the procedure will take place on Saturday April 20.
The Ukrainian authorities are holding their breath because, as the CIA boss warned on Thursday, without this money Ukraine could lose the war against Russia by the end of 2024. Vladimir Putin could also be able to dictate the terms of a political settlement, he added.
A pivotal moment for the conflict in Ukraine
Bill Burns, the head of the CIA, even gave as an example of this emergency a striking description of the lack of ammunition. Imagine two brigades, or around 4,000 men, who only have 15 artillery shells and 42 mortar shells to defend themselves per day. This gives an idea of the situation on the ground. When you are on the front line, when you hear the shells falling and when you see the Ukrainian soldiers unable to respond due to lack of weapons and ammunition, you are struck by the courage of these men, who despite everything resist and confront their enemies with the means at hand.
But to this military emergency on the Ukrainian ground is added a political emergency linked to the approaching American elections. In November 2024, the elections will take place and Joe Biden may no longer be president after January 2025, if we use the date of the transfer of power.
In summary, either Joe Biden wins the November elections and we can imagine that American support for Ukraine will continue, or the outgoing president loses the elections and it will be a leap into the unknown, because Donald Trump maintains the vagueness.
The uncertain support of the next president-elect in the United States
His latest statements are very ambiguous. Without directly opposing the text, Donald Trump has estimated in recent days that the United States must “stop giving money without expecting to be reimbursed”. With the upcoming envelope, the Americans will have paid over 160 billion for this war and, obviously, Donald Trump believes that that is enough. He also finds that Europeans are not doing enough, if we are to believe his message launched on his social network: “Get moving, Europe”. We also remember his threats about the role of NATO and the fact that the organization would no longer necessarily guarantee the protection of Europeans against Russia.
Saturday’s vote can therefore truly change the face of the world, or at least the face of Europe. Suffice it to say that it will be scrutinized carefully and in particular by the first person concerned, the Ukrainian president, who knows that his future will be at stake there.
