RATP will set up a monthly bonus “of presence” to fight against the absenteeism of bus drivers, franceinfo learned on Tuesday October 25 from the group, confirming information from the Parisian Today in France [article payant].

>> Opening up to competition, shortage of drivers, social conflicts… What awaits Jean Castex at the RATP

The bonus will be allocated gradually each month, starting at the end of October, at the rate of 100 euros for the first month of continuous presence, 150 euros for the second month and 200 euros for the third month. Drivers will therefore be able to receive up to 450 euros after three consecutive months without absence, excluding regular holidays. The monthly counter will be reset from the first day of absence from work, in order to “to incite” bus drivers. The device is in place “until the end of the year”.

This exceptional bonus aims to “improve the service offer”indicates the RATP, which claims to want “welcome the commitment and investment of the bus drivers present at their service”. The Île-de-France transport authority is facing a “difficult operating period”, which is reflected in particular by a lack of bus drivers.

The opening up of buses to competition indeed causes tension and concern among drivers, and partly explains the recruitment crisis. Some 4,000 positions are currently vacant at RATP, including 800 bus drivers.

To overcome the problem, the RATP has also set up, for the first time in its history, recruitment by cooptation. If one of its employees offers management a good CV, and that person is hired, then the co-optor will receive 150 euros. And if the new bus driver is still there a year later, then the “piston” will again receive 150 euros. So 300 euros for a successful recruitment.
