The Québec En Alerte system tested Wednesday at 1:55 p.m.

The new Québec En Alerte system will be tested by the Ministry of Public Security (MSP) on Wednesday at 1:55 p.m.

The test will be carried out on a pan-Canadian scale with broadcast “on television, radio, on compatible wireless devices connected to an LTE network, on the website as well as on the MSP’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts”, according to Quebec.

Through this new alert system, the MSP aims to diligently inform the public to adopt safe behavior in the event of danger. The hazard may arise from a chemical or explosion hazard, tornado or other disaster.

Québec En Alerte also makes it possible to broadcast AMBER alerts in the event of a child abduction.

According to the MSP, it is not possible to unsubscribe from this service, which will not be received by all citizens on their cellphones.

“To receive the alert, the cell phone must be compatible and connected to an LTE network at the time the alert is launched,” the ministry said in a press release last week.
