Negotiations are complicated on the left, to build an alliance for the June 2022 legislative elections. The PS finally suspended discussions with La France insoumise.
The negotiations had started rather well, with a press release from the Socialist Party (PS) which recorded, Friday, April 29 in the morning, points of convergence with La France insoumise. Finally, the PS suspended discussions at midday. Officially, the socialists consider that it is necessary to break with any hegemonic logic and to accept plurality. Clearly, they want to recognize the good score of Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the presidential election, but no longer spend their time crawling in front of La France insoumise and their desiderata.
The PS wants to be treated as a partner and not as a vassal. Beyond the form, there are also ideological differences that persist, especially on Europe. Some tenors of the party are annoyed vis-à-vis the management. The suspension of the discussions therefore intervenes to calm the game internally at the PS, explains the journalist from France Télévisions, Jean-Christophe Galeazzi.
