The prosecution is requesting a trial in the case of the collapse of the Mirepoix-sur-Tarn bridge (Haute-Garonne) in 2019, reported Thursday March 14 France Bleu Occitanie, which specifies that the investigation is now complete.

More precisely, in its requisitions the prosecution requests the referral of the company of the driver, who died in the accident, to a court as a legal entity. A demand “in the interest of the victims”, explains the prosecution, to be able to retain responsibility for this fatal accident. That of the driver who drove the heavy goods vehicle – the sole operator and director of the company – cannot in fact be engaged since he died in the accident but it is possible to retain that of his company as a legal entity in order to , in particular, that the victims can be compensated.

Note that the legal entity was not dissolved after the accident due to the ongoing investigation, which prevented this. It will therefore now be up to the investigating judge to make a decision.

As a reminder, on November 18, 2019, the Mirepoix-sur-Tarn suspension bridge collapsed, causing the death of two people: a 15-year-old girl who was with her mother in a car and the driver of a truck, an entrepreneur. According to initial information, the heavy goods vehicle is suspected of having caused the collapse of the bridge. The vehicle weighed more than 50 tonnes while the bridge was closed to vehicles weighing more than 19 tonnes.
