The Professional Federation of Journalists of Quebec (FPJQ) was the victim of a cyberattack on Thursday. The organization claims to have “eliminated the danger” and ensures that the personal data of its 1,500 members have not been affected.

“We are investigating what happened, but everything indicates that the personal data of the members was not affected, nor any of the neuralgic functions of the organization”, indicated the FPJQ on its social networks in the post. -noon.

Several members who received questionable attachments by email Thursday morning quickly alerted the federation. “We started the process right away. […] We had been in contact with external IT security companies for several months to have our site analyzed as a preventive measure, ”explains the president, Michaël Nguyen, in an interview. To his knowledge, this is the first time that the FPJQ has suffered a cyberattack.

As a precaution, members’ personal accounts are no longer accessible. However, it is still possible to consult the site online.

“The new law 25 on the protection of personal information imposes certain obligations on us, including that of reporting to you any incident, even minor, which seems to be the case here. We will keep you informed of developments, as we are committed to exceeding regulatory requirements, ”adds the federation.
