the prefect of Gironde thanks the firefighters of the European fleet

End of mission for the 36 Greek and Italian soldiers who came to reinforce the French civil security aviation. But before returning to their respective bases, the prefect made the trip to the air base 106 of Mérignac, in order to thank them for their strategic support in the fight against the flames.

“It’s a bit our common heritage that burned”

In a quick improvised speech on the tarmac of the Mérignac air base, the prefect praised the joint work of the French, Italians and Greeks. “The Gironde department as well as the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region has the largest forest massif in Europe. Here, it is a bit of our common heritage that has burned down and which unfortunately is still caught up in a big fire. So a thank you very much for what you have done.”
