The PQ first in the polls: this is why

For several months, the trend had been emerging: the PQ was rising in the polls and seemed destined to catch up with the CAQ, then overtake it.

For several days, this has been done, as evidenced by the survey carried out for News.

As for QS and the PLQ, they share third place, even if the Liberals are missing in French-speaking Quebec. Which reminds us that the weight of French speakers is decreasing in Quebec and that it is no longer necessary to have a base at home to have a solid electoral base – let’s call that the political consequences of massive immigration.

Vision

But let’s get to the news of the week.

On the one hand, the CAQ is falling. It’s normal. Since her re-election, she seems rudderless and without an overall vision.

We no longer really know what François Legault wants to do with power. Whatever the subject, she seems destabilized, as evidenced by the delirium around the 3e link or the absurd decision to finance the Kings’ whirlwind visit to Quebec.

On the other, the PQ is rising. Paul St-Pierre Plamondon succeeded in reviving a party that seemed condemned to disappearance. From now on, the PQ presents itself to French-speaking voters as the alternative to the Legault government.

Behind this shift in the electorate, we find a strong trend: the return of the national question.

The CAQ was a coalition of disappointed sovereignists and nationalist federalists. It has become a coalition of submissive sovereignists and arrogant federalists. It is now content with nationalism in words.

Nationalism

As for the PQ, it made the bet to win without hiding its independence option, but by putting it forward.

The coming constitutional crisis around Bill 21, the federal immigrationist madness and the accelerated anglicization of Montreal will radicalize this situation.

Behind the evolution of the polls, Quebec society is being recomposed politically.
