The policeman who bludgeoned a “yellow vest” during a demonstration of “yellow vests” on Saturday March 30, 2019 in Besançon (Doubs) was found guilty of assault by the Besançon criminal court on Friday February 11, reports France Bleu Besancon. The victim, Matthias, considers himself “relieved”.

The police officer was sentenced to pay a suspended fine of 1,000 euros and 500 euros for non-pecuniary damage. The man was not present at the announcement of the deliberation. “Justice finally recognizes that we are not thugs”said Matthias after the announcement of the decision.

On April 1, 2019, two days after the publication of the video on social networks, the prefect of Doubs seized the IGPN. According to the prefecture, the police officer had made good use “of a flexible stick of defense” in front of a protester “who seemed to him to obstruct the progress of the police by acts of hostility”. Matthias, the young man, had, meanwhile, filed a complaint on April 2.
