The police resume the search to find the little girl missing in the Mistassibi River

The fairly solid ice cover allowed divers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) to resume the search to find the 4-year-old girl who fell into the Mistassibi River, in Lac-Saint-Jean, a few days before Christmas.

In addition to divers, rescuers in helicopters also patrol the banks of the river in a sector “downstream from where the little girl sank,” confirms Sergeant Hugues Beaulieu, spokesperson for the SQ.

On the ice of the river, holes are also drilled to pass cameras into the water. However, the “frazil”, a mixture of small ice in the water of the river, is currently making visibility difficult for divers and cameras.

The intensity of this frazil ice will partly determine whether the searches will continue on Wednesday, indicates Hugues Beaulieu.

The 4-year-old girl and her mother were sliding near the Chute des Pères Motel on December 22 when the little girl fell into the waters of the Mistassibi River, a tributary of the Mistassini River.

The SQ suspended its search after a week, but then assured that it would resume when the ice cover was strong enough.
