It is not only on the holiday route, near motorways or major roads, that the police are tightening their controls… During these summer holidays, in Ille-et-Vilaine, police officers may be required to pay attention to “recreational vehicles”such as two-wheelers or motorhomes, at the request of the Prefect.
The objective is to verify that all safety standards are well respected. This Tuesday, August 2, 2022, for example, seven motorcyclists from the Western CRS Zonal Unit were present in Saint-Malo, near the port.
Two-wheelers or motorhomes
Among the vehicles in the line of sight of the police, in this kind of control, are scooters and motorcycles. With sunny days, drivers can drop their black jackets or boots. But some outfits can be sanctioned, such as flip-flops. And accessories remain mandatory all year round, like gloves. The fine is 45 euros if you do not wear them.
“People are too hot and they feel like it’s optionalexplains Brigadier Régis Briand, except that it’s essential not to hurt yourself by falling. The gloves are not foolproof, but it reduces the risk of injuring your hand or breaking your fingers. We wear our protective equipment all year round, adds the biker, and we get used to it.“
Other vehicles checked: motorhomes. The police make sure that everyone is properly secured, including in the back, check that the safety equipment is present and that vehicle condition is correct. “As these are vehicles that only come out in the summer, users can forget, for example, to check the condition of their tires.“, says Commander Frédéric Gassert.
Another means of transport has been in vogue for several years: the electric scooter. “There are a number of violationsadmits the Commander. On the lights, drivers driving on the sidewalk, too fast or with a passenger. In this case, it is above all young people who, I believe, are in good faith when they tell us that they did not know. So we play the card of prevention rather than that of repression.“
