The interim leader of the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ), Marc Tanguay, said Tuesday, at the opening of the pre-sessional caucus, that his political party must “simplify” its message to the population.
The election of a single Liberal MNA outside the metropolitan area on October 3, namely André Fortin in the riding of Pontiac in Outaouais, is due in particular to the overly complex message that was conveyed during the last election campaign, said Mr. Tanguay.
The latter gave the example of the ECO project, which aims to promote a green economy by combining hydrogen and electricity. “It is a flagship project that we proposed during the election campaign which is a 2050 vision, therefore a long-term vision, he said, during a press scrum in Lac-Beauport, in the north of Quebec. It was very difficult to be able to translate it in a few seconds, in a few minutes. »
In order to be relevant as members of the official opposition, the Liberals responsible for regional files will have to meet Quebeckers across the province, said the interim leader. “Me first,” he added.
When parliamentary proceedings resume in the National Assembly next Tuesday, the main message of the official opposition will focus on the economy and the essential services provided by the State, argued Marc Tanguay.
Prime Minister François Legault does not lead a government “of results”, he lamented. “It’s a government of failures when you look at what is happening in health, in justice, in childcare services. »
Liberal candidacies “under analysis” for the partial
Marc Tanguay assured that “several candidacies are being analyzed” for the Quebec by-election in the Montreal riding of Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne. “We will have the opportunity to make our choice and announce it. »
Québec solidaire has already presented its candidate, Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, who will try to fill the seat left vacant by the departure of former Liberal leader Dominique Anglade.
According to Mr. Tanguay, the Liberals are not behind the Solidaires, in particular because of the record of Mr. Anglade’s seven years as representative of the riding. “Dominique represented in an extraordinary way, in a remarkable way, in a very unifying way, all the citizens of Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne,” he pointed out.
The interim leader stressed that the party is looking for a candidate who is familiar with the issues of the constituency and who is “glued to his living environment”.
Further details will follow.
