A serious incident took place on Tuesday April 5 on Air France flight AF011 between New York and Paris. Shortly before 10 a.m., the aircraft, a Boeing 777, was about to land at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle and was on approach, at an altitude of 370 meters, when the pilots noticed that the aircraft unresponsive and had to go around urgently.

The Bureau of Investigation and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) announced on Wednesday April 6 in a press release to open a safety investigation for “serious incident”. Air France confirms to franceinfo that “the crew of flight AF011 connecting New York JFK to Paris – Charles de Gaulle interrupted their landing sequence and performed a go-around during approach” from Paris airport. The crew was able to land the plane “normally after a second approach”.

In an audio document broadcast on Twitter [à écouter ci-dessous], we hear the pilots, visibly stressed, discussing with the control tower as well as alarm sounds. The crew regained control of the aircraft and regained altitude. One of the pilots then explains that “the plane did just about anything”. The BEA speaks “d’instability of flight controls on final, control hardness and flight path oscillations”. The go-around “is a normal procedure that goes in the direction of safety”explains Air France to franceinfo. “Crews are trained and regularly practiced in these procedures practiced by all airlines in order to guarantee the safety of flights and passengers, which are absolute imperatives for Air France”adds the company, which says “understand and regret the discomfort that may have been felt by customers” present on board the aircraft.

The flight AF011 was able to land normally at 10:15 a.m. on another runway at the airport. The BEA is opening a safety investigation for this incident and is requesting the immobilization of the aircraft and the recovery of the black boxes. The control tower agents and the crew members will be heard next week, the BEA told franceinfo.
