The Philharmonie de Paris goes back in time with an exhibition devoted to the epic of hip-hop, which brings together music, dance and graffiti.

Hip-hop is scrutinized in an exhibition at the Philharmonie de Paris. Quite a symbol for the artistic movement, landed almost by breaking and entering from the United States in the 80s. It brings together rappers, DJs, dancers and graffiti artists, with the street as a playground.

The exhibition allows in particular to return on the first steps of future stars like MC Solaar, seized at the time by Maï Lucas, then young photographer. “I join this movement because I am not even 18 years old, and it is the new movement which arrives for the young people in Paris, which speaks to all our public [de] multicultural people. It is a gateway to create and to exist “, she confides.

Many believed in a flash in the pan. On the contrary, hip-hop has become a heavyweight in the music industry. Today, the ten most streamed artists are all rappers. The history of pioneers, like NTM, is told today in cinema. Even breakdance has become an institution: the discipline will become an Olympic event in 2024. Nowadays, hip-hop culture is more on the move than ever.
