He had said it himself 24 hours before, it was a test. The Périgord athlete Yoann Kowal participated this Sunday in the very first marathon of his career, in London. For this first, the European 3,000 meter steeplechase champion completed the race in 2h27’59a time below its target.
First ever marathon
The athlete is a regular at competitions, but on the track. He had never traveled such a long distance before. This Sunday in the streets of London, Yoann Kowal left on a very fast basis. He exploded in the second part of the race, before crossing the finish line after 2h27’59. Questioned on Saturday before the race, Yoann Kowal said: “You really discover yourself as a marathon runner on a marathon and crossing the finish line. It’s a discipline that I won’t master on the first, the second, nor the third necessarily”.
