Very bright, this beautiful Victorian built in a peaceful area at the foot of the mountain in Westmount has kept all its cachet of yesteryear, but its owners have improved it so that it meets the current lifestyle by carrying out major work in particular. in the basement.

Alessandra Esposito Chartrand, her partner Marc-André L’Africain and their little Emma Lia have lived in this house since 2018. “I love old houses and we immediately fell in love by visiting this one with its beautiful wooden floor. origin and its magnificent moldings. We also really liked the very quiet, intimate backyard. Also, its location was ideal, in a pleasant area within walking distance of all services, ”says the owner.

The property was in excellent condition when they bought it and the kitchen had been redone. Classic with its beautiful pale cabinets and marble counters, it is equipped with plenty of storage space, a heated floor and provides direct access to the backyard. “I just added an island that connects it to the dining room. At first, my husband didn’t see the point, but eventually he likes it a lot and we use it all the time! », Remarks M^me Esposito Chartrand. A living room and a pretty bathroom complete the first floor.

Upstairs, the master bedroom adorned with superb woodwork opens onto a large wardrobe. walk-in. “In fact, it is a room that we have arranged to store all our belongings, since there are two other rooms on this floor”, explains the hostess. One of them is for their daughter and the other serves as their office.

The full bathroom has been recently renovated, following a problem on the roof. “In June 2020, we changed our roof and the roofer forgot to clean our drain when he left, which caused water damage. We then took the opportunity to redo the bathroom and, at the same time, make it accessible from the hallway, then directly from our bedroom, ”she continues.

A bright and spacious basement

The renovations did not stop there since major work was undertaken in the basement, which was also damaged. Excavated to provide a greater ceiling height, it is now covered with a heated polished concrete floor.

All the space in the basement has been optimized by creating a complete bathroom, a beautiful laundry room with integrated storage, access to the outside and a very pleasant playroom for Emma Lia.

“All of her toys are in this room, so nothing is lying around on the first floor. We had a camera system installed that allows me to monitor her when I’m not with her; it’s extremely practical, ”notes the young mother.

White painted walls brighten up the space and well-placed downlights generate a warm light. The structural strengthening elements are hidden inside boxes dressed with molded facades. Versatile, these “low walls” can be used both as a bench and as a shelf.

“There is no wasted space, because we have maximized all the space to arrange new rooms, such as the additional bathroom, the mudroom and the laundry room in the basement which correspond to our fashion of life, but the heritage character of the house has been preserved. It was essential for us ”, explains M^me Esposito Chartrand.

“We really enjoy living here; it’s a very pleasant place for a small family, but also for people who work at home, ”believes the hostess. The couple decided to sell because the family’s needs change, they need more property and a lot of land for their 8 month old puppy, who will soon have another four legged playmate!
