In an 18-story apartment building in Noisy-le-Sec, both elevators are broken. Residents, who are fluctuating between anger and exhaustion, fear that the situation will continue until the start of the school year.

Every day for this resident of the Verlaine Tower, returning to her apartment on the fifth floor is an ordeal. Having undergone surgery for breast cancer, she must avoid any fatigue, but the two elevators have been out of order for three weeks. Even more distressing, on the 18th floor. A young mother of two children is due to give birth in the coming days. “I’m afraid to go down the stairs because I could give birth on the stairs, and that’s very risky.”she confides.

In this housing estate in Noisy-le-Sec (Seine-Saint-Denis), it all started four months ago. A first elevator broke down, then the second, on July 31. The landlord did not respond to France Télévisions’ requests, and only offered the residents one solution. A man, present four hours a day, helps them carry their shopping. “The problem, I think, is that they brought in cheaper foreign companies that don’t do what’s necessary…”says a resident.
