The fire which ravaged the old Stock Exchange in Copenhagen, Denmark, on the morning of Tuesday April 16, left its mark on the minds of the inhabitants of the Danish capital.
In the heart of Copenhagen (Denmark), Tuesday April 16, impressive flames and thick smoke. It was around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning when a fire broke out in the Danish capital’s historic Stock Exchange, one of the city’s oldest monuments. Around the building, the perimeter was quickly cordoned off, and dozens of soldiers and firefighters were deployed. “I can say that there are no injuries”assured Jakob Vedsted, local head of emergency management, while noting “very significant damage to the roof and interior” of the building.

As firefighters tried to put out the fire, a few meters from the ladder, the imposing 54-meter spire collapsed. The building housed an extensive art collection, and was being renovated to celebrate its four centuries of existence. There, the emotion was strong, and the Danes seemed deeply affected, helpless in the face of the scene that unfolded before their eyes.
