The offer is very wide: clothes, jewellery, watches, smartphones, coffee machines but also leather goods, books and video games.
In fact, most of the time the brands have partnered with second-hand specialists who have a dedicated space in the store. For example, Auchan is in partnership with easycash which is the core business. It was in Noyelles-Godaud in the Pas-de-Calais that the first store offered this new sales space which displays very attractive prices as can be found on the second-hand market: 2 to 4 times cheaper than new!
More and more supermarkets are following suit
The main ones. If it all started in Haute-Garonne, with the Leclerc hypermarket in Roques sur Garonne in 2018, and from Auchan, Carrefour, Système U and others have followed suit.
What is interesting if one is not too much garage sale or sale on Internet. At Auchan, you can have the object you no longer want appraised and have it bought back on the spot. And if you want to have an estimate beforehand, it’s possible with Carrefour on the internet: I tried with an Iphone 11 and I was offered 330 euros, and otherwise with a basic Nespresso machine: there it was up to me to make a proposal, response expected within 48 hours. It’s the same system at Leclerc but you are paid in vouchers.
An ecological AND economic interest
Of course, the lifespan of objects is a real issue in terms of avoiding pollution but also greenhouse gases, and you’re right, it’s a big financial issue for distributors, but they’re also the ones who have in our hands the ability to change uses on a large scale.
