The number of households seeking social housing has practically doubled since 2010 in Île-de-France, according to a study published this Thursday by the Paris Region Institute obtained by France Bleu Paris. In 2022, 783,000 households requested social housing in the Ile-de-France region, compared to 406,000 in 2010. Among these applicants, 48% are single people, 65% are employed people.
“There have never been so many people seeking social housing”, alerts the institute. He estimates that “14% of Ile-de-France households are waiting for social housing” and that “only one in ten requests is met each year” (75,000 allocations in 2022). According to calculations by the Paris Region Institute, the theoretical waiting period amounts to 10.4 years in Île-de-France and even 16.2 years in Paris, compared to 5.8 years on average in France. metropolitan.
This increase in requests is partly explained by the particularly high rental prices in Île-de-France: “The level of rents there is 43% higher than that observed in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the second most expensive region in mainland France”, observes the study. She also notes that between 2002 and 2020, “rents for private housing increased by 56% and real estate prices by 185%, while the income of Ile-de-France residents increased by only 33%”.
