A tribute was paid to Jacques Delors, Friday January 5, under the gaze of European heads of state and government as well as his daughter, Martine Aubry. Emmanuel Macron salutes the memory of a tutelary figure, architect of the European Union. The President of the Republic follows in the footsteps of his illustrious elder, even if he has never met him. In the audience, convinced Europeans underline the legacy and personality of the former President of the European Commission.
The father of the Erasmus program
“Jacques Delors gave a soul to the European Union”says Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. “Jacques Delors has always had both authority and team spirit”, adds Michel Barnier, former European Commissioner. Lionel Jospin, former Prime Minister, remembers “his extreme demands in his work”. Young people also express their gratitude to the father of the Erasmus program, an exchange between European students.
