Monday May 27, commemorations took place across France for the National Day of Resistance. A date also celebrated by the National Rally (RN), several elected officials published messages on social networks. Marine Le Pen even posted a visual showing Jean Moulin, a real “shame”estimate elected officials from the left and the macronie.
“Honor to the Resistance”writes Jordan Bardella. “Honor to the shadow soldiers who saved the honor of a nation”, post Marine Le Pen, with a photo montage where we recognize the face of Jean Moulin. This is too much, for Antoine Léaument, deputy of La France insoumise. “It is a form of complete hypocrisy because the National Rally (at the time National Front) was founded by the people that the Resistance fought, he blurted out. Pierre Bousquet, who submitted the party’s statutes, was a Waffen-SS. So it’s really a shame.”
Indignation also among Macronist elected officials. “The heroes of the Resistance sacrificed their lives to fight against those of whom you are the political heir”writes Valérie Hayer, while MP Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade speaks of a “infamy”.
“I think we need to stop this caving, otherwise we can do it for all political parties, replies Julien Odoul, one of the spokespersons for the RN. It must be remembered that the parliamentarians who voted full powers to Marshal Pétain on July 10, 1940 were mainly left-wing parliamentarians.” He assures that the RN today embodies the values of the Resistance. “Who is the French political figure today who comes closest to the Gaullian vision in terms of national independence, in terms of sovereignty? It is obviously Marine Le Pen.”
A vision that Daniel Cordier did not share. Jean Moulin’s secretary declared seven years ago: “When I hear Marine Le Pen claiming this heritage, I feel it like an imposture.”
