The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) has appealed seven of the nine acquittals pronounced in favor of members of the far-right Barjols group, franceinfo learned on Friday February 24 from a judicial source. They were suspected of having fomented attacks against elected officials, exiles or mosques.
On February 17, after a three-week long trial, the Paris Criminal Court had convicted three members of this group of terrorist criminals, considering that there were many “preparatory acts” in connection with a plan to assassinate Emmanuel Macron in November 2018.
Three prison sentences
The heaviest sentence concerned Jean-Pierre Bouyer, a 66-year-old ex-garage man and former number 2 for Barjols, sentenced to four years in prison, including one year suspended, for having played a “driving role” in the plan to assassinate the President of the Republic. Three other people from the small group formed in 2017 on Facebook had also been sentenced respectively to four years in prison, including two years suspended, three years in prison, including two years suspended and six months in prison suspended.
In addition to the nine acquittals, the judges had also pronounced a partial acquittal with regard to a tenth defendant, sentenced to a suspended sentence for possession and illegal sale of weapons.
