Live from Zaporijia, Ukraine, Monday August 29, Maryse Burgot details what the IAEA experts will do, sent to control the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
IAEA investigators travel to Ukraine to check the state of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. “The first mission of these UN nuclear police will be to check the condition of the power lines around the plant”, details journalist Maryse Burgot, special correspondent in Zaporijia (Ukraine), Monday, August 29. These power lines, partially damaged during fires, are essential to the proper functioning of the site and to the cooling of the reactors of the nuclear power plant.
“The experts will also check the emergency systems, also check that the pools, in which the fuels are stored, are working well”, continues Maryse Burgot. However, the experts can only issue recommendations, since the Russians now control the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia. “So they are the ones who will decide in the end,” concludes the journalist.
