Aurélien Rousseau will meet during the day in Créteil with medical regulation assistants, who have been on strike since July. They “have a central role in our healthcare system” And “have a role in global regulation which is essential”he greets.
“We opened 19 training schools,” he recalls. “We are not going to give them a new grid” of wages, demanded by the strikers. It remains that of medical secretaries “but we are going to give the ARMs a speed of progression and a reconnaissance capacity which will allow them to progress more quickly”.
The mobilized medical regulation assistants also asked for hiring. On this point, Aurélien Rousseau hits the nail on the head. “The directors of establishments and the bosses of Samu, if they need to recruit medical regulation assistants, they recruit them. This is not the subject that I have heard the most in recent months”, affirms he.
Unarm and the French Association of Medical Regulation Assistants (Afarm) launched a strike movement in July to demand hiring and salary increases. The service is not disrupted by the strike, the employees declaring themselves to be on strike being immediately assigned to their post. According to its representatives, the profession suffers from chronic understaffing, aggravated by the new missions given to “15” to relieve emergency services. Patients are increasingly encouraged to call 15 before going to the hospital, so that if necessary they can be referred to another solution, a local doctor or another. For some hospitals, calling 15 is even mandatory before being admitted to the emergency room.
The associations demanded a bonus of 120 euros, and a reform of their salary scale. A medical regulation assistant earns around 1,800 euros gross at the start of their career. The associations also estimate that there is a shortage of between 800 and 1,200 medical assistants in France, with a current workforce of around 2,500 people.
