The violin-shaped Höfner bass that belonged to Paul McCartney, stolen in 1972, was found half a century later thanks to Beatles fans.

Nearly half a century after Paul McCartney’s Höfner bass was stolen, his favorite instrument has been found. She had been sleeping in an attic for over twenty years. The bass was stolen on October 10, 1972 and was found by a couple of journalists, Beatles fans. Last year, fans launched an appeal in the press to find the Beatles member’s instrument, which he used to record his greatest hits.

The bass found in the south of England

Journalists received thousands of emails in a few days. A person claims to know where and by whom the bass was stolen. The journalists explain that they have gone through the directories of the neighborhoods of Notting Hill, where the instrument was allegedly stolen. They discover that it was sold to the manager of a bar. Reading the news, a woman contacts them: she inherited the bass from her father-in-law and she explains that she still has it at home, in the south of the country. The instrument was found by its owner who thanked the amateur detectives.
