The medieval castle of Tiffauges

On the occasion of the 5th edition of the Médiévales de Tiffauges, “1371, the siege of the fortress”, on September 24 and 25, the Vendée Department offers you an immersion in the heart of the Middle Ages through a long weekend. end of events and historical reconstructions. Nearly 500 extras, representing 12 nationalities and brought together by the Roi Uther association, will make you experience two exceptional days by offering you a life-size reconstruction of a medieval siege. A rich program of activities will be offered around the establishment of the siege of the castle, with scenes of daily life, civilians and soldiers, allowing you to discover in particular the management of the garrison for the defense of the fortress. Two universes on two different sites: at the foot of the ramparts with the besiegers and inside the castle with the besieged. Throughout the weekend, the different stages of the siege will follow one another in a plot articulated around two emblematic characters: The Duke of Anjou and Péronnelle de Thouars. To dive even further into the Middle Ages, a medieval market, as well as craftsmen and artists will offer the possibility of eating, of exchanging around know-how and products, and of discovering the music and dance of this era. . Unique conservatory in Europe of siege machines, and the largest medieval site in western France, the Château de Tiffauges with its 700-meter enclosure reinforced by 18 towers, is the ideal place to host this unique event which brings together every year several thousand visitors.
