Richard Chatellier, the mayor of Nazelles-Négron in Indre-et-Loire, has been remanded in custody since Friday April 8, France Bleu Touraine learned on Monday from the public prosecutor of Tours.
He is indicted for rape of minors and sexual assault on minors under the age of 15 and over 15, corruption of minors and willful violence against vulnerable people, specifies the public prosecutor of Tours, Grégoire Dulin, confirming information of The New Republic.
Richard Chatellier, LREM related mayor since 2014, is suspected of having abused young girls aged 13 to 17 at the time of the events between 2013 and 2021. The Tours prosecutor’s office upheld four of the five complaints filed against the city councilor.
According to information from France Bleu Touraine, the mayor is suspected of having committed the acts at his home. At the end of 2021, one of the young girls who accuses Richard Chatellier had made a report which led to the launch of the investigation by the gendarmerie of Tours.
The chosen one had been arrested on Wednesday April 6 and then auditioned during the 48 hours of his police custody. The public prosecutor of Tours, Grégoire Dulin, recalls that Richard Chatellier is presumed innocent.
