The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired defenseman Mark Giordano from the Seattle Kraken, according to multiple media reports. In order to give themselves space under the salary cap, they were also active on waivers.

The Leafs have indeed submitted goaltender Petr Mrazek and forward Kyle Clifford to waivers. They also agreed with goaltender Harri Sateri, a Finn who played in the KHL this season and who would therefore end the season in the NHL.

Sateri, however, must also go through waivers before he can report to the Leafs. The former Sharks draft pick, now 32, was 14-16-5, 2.02 GAA and .926 save with the Novosibirsk KHL Sibir this season.

He also led Finland to the gold medal at the Beijing Games this winter.

Mrazek, the team’s highest-paid goaltender at $3.8 million per season through 2024, is struggling this season, averaging 3.48 and shooting efficiency at .884. Despite these numbers, his record stands at 10 wins and six losses.

Things are getting tougher ahead of the playoffs in the Atlantic Division. The three other teams that should mathematically participate have each made a major acquisition: Claude Giroux and Ben Chiarot in Florida, Brandon Hagel in Tampa and Hampus Lindholm in Boston.
