The man suspected of trying to kill Donald Trump in Florida on September 15 had written for months about his intention to assassinate the former US president, according to documents released by the prosecution on Monday September 23. Ryan Routh, a 58-year-old American, was arrested after being put on the run by Secret Service agents who spotted him with a weapon near the golf course where the Republican candidate for the White House was playing.

A judge in West Palm Beach District Court, where he appeared again Monday, ordered his continued detention. Ryan Routh is charged at this point with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. But the prosecution announced in court Monday that it would ask that he also be charged with “attempted assassination”punishable by life imprisonment.

The prosecution said it received a box from an acquaintance of Ryan Routh that was left at the person’s home several months ago. The box contained a handwritten letter addressed to “the world” that read: “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but I’m sorry, I failed in my duty”.

“It is now up to you to finish the job and I will offer $150,000 to whoever completes it.”the suspect adds in the document, apparently blaming Donald Trump for causing chaos in the Middle East by sabotaging the international agreement with Iran on its nuclear program in 2018.

Prosecutors have not said whether the attempt referred to in the letter is the one that failed on September 15 or refers to an earlier plan. In a self-published book about the war in Ukraine, Ryan Routh also mentioned a plan “to assassinate Trump”they added. The box also contained ammunition, a metal pipe and four telephones, according to the same source.
