The man suspected of having tried to steal the Queen of Egypt’s necklace in Paris in 2021 and wanted for several months, was finally arrested on Monday May 1 in Gaillard (Haute-Savoie), reports France Bleu Pays de Savoie , confirming information from the log The Parisian.

The 31-year-old man from the Paris region was arrested near Annemasse, by agents of the banditry repression brigade (BRB) of Versailles and by agents of the judicial police of Annecy and Lyon. He planned to commit a new robbery, an armed robbery, this time in Switzerland, with three other people.

Involved in a dozen robberies

The suspect was wanted in connection with an investigation into the attempted theft of Queen Nazly of Egypt’s necklace in July 2021, exhibited in Paris and whose value is estimated at more than four million euros. Along with another group of individuals, they planned at the time to use firearms and explosives. The 30-year-old was then arrested in this case, but he was finally released from pre-trial detention for procedural flaws. Subsequently, he did not appear for his trial. At the time, the court sentenced him to eight years in prison. He had been wanted ever since.

Note that this individual is already involved in more than a dozen armed robbery cases in jewelry stores. For this new attempt at robbery in Switzerland, the prosecutor’s office of Versailles has relinquished the case in favor of that of Thonon-les-Bains.
