“I hope it’s not just communication”declared Monday March 25 on franceinfo Frédéric Péchenard, vice-president of the Republicans of the Ile-de-France region and former director general of the national police, while four new anti-drug operations “place net XXL” were carried out on Monday morning in France.

A week after Marseille, these anti-drug operations were carried out in the Lille metropolis, in the Lyon metropolitan area, in Dijon and in the Paris region – notably in Sevran (Seine-Saint-Denis) and Colombes (Hauts-de-Seine) . In total, “15,000 police officers, gendarmes and customs officers will be mobilized this week” in France, detailed the Ministry of the Interior.

“To fight organized crime, we need specialists”

“The title is publicity, but tackling the subject of drug trafficking head-on is important”insisted the former director general of the national police. “We have a Minister of the Interior who, overall, does the job and who is a man I appreciate”he added. “The risk of leaving organized crime in a country like ours is that little by little, we will have police officers or magistrates who are threatened, murdered or corrupted”continued Frédéric Péchenard.

“To fight organized crime, we need specialists and we cannot do without a specialized police force”, he added, worrying in particular about the police reform led by Gérald Darmanin. It plans to place all the department’s police services – intelligence, public security, border police and judicial police – under the authority of a single departmental director of the national police, reporting to the prefect.
