Jimmy Briand no shortage of activity! New consultant for Ligue 1 with our colleagues from Premium Videohe has just launched the B-Striker Academy. A project that completes the launch last summer of the B-Pro Academy at Bouscat and which reinforces his desire to become a Coach
France Bleu Gironde: you have just launched the B-Striker Academy, what is it about?
Jimmy Briand : It’s an idea that came to me with the experience that I had throughout my career on the observation that there are goalkeeper coaches, but that we don’t have many, if not very little, as a forwards coach and having played in this position all my career I think it is a specific position. In Lyon, I knew attacking coaches who were Sonny Anderson then Gerald Baticle and today is Ludovic Guily. I think it’s something that will develop in the future because attacking is a special position. He’s like a goalkeeper and I think you have to work on him and work on him well. And I want to get into it. I am currently undergoing training at Clairefontaine for this purpose. The B-striker, above all, offers to work with attackers but also with football players who want to progress with always this desire which is mine to become a coach. I also offer fitness because after a 20-year career, I know what it takes to get back in shape after an injury or after a long period of inactivity.
This work specific to attackers, you only saw it in Lyon?
I only saw him in Lyon at the professional level. This summer, I received an offer to be a forwards coach at an academy. It didn’t happen. But I think it’s a position that will grow. And proof is, I received proposals in this direction. It exists a bit abroad, in England a lot of clubs that offer it in the United States too, it’s a different culture. But I think that in the near future or a little more distant, there will be attacking coaches but also defenders and even, why not, midfield coaches, because each position has specificities. It involves larger staffs or at least with assistants who can certainly work positions.
Do the diplomas you are preparing go in this direction?
Yes they are specific! It’s not about the general diplomas that I’m going to take next year. To become a specific goalkeeper coach, you have to pass a diploma. Clubs can do without but I think it’s better with. I think it’s always good to train and learn. Even if with the career I’ve had, I could say I’m going like that, but I want to learn to be able to do this job as well as possible.
The amateur clubs who listen to us, I know that there have already been things with our neighbours, from Lot et Garonne to Marmande, can call on the B-Striker?
Exactly. I can intervene on the clubs to make their young attackers work and to exchange, to have an expertise. It’s all on my site and I just go to Contact and send me a message. And then after we exchange and we see if we can work together.
Can we see that you have the desire to transmit?
It’s my desire. I passed the coaching diploma over two years, so I already have the first diploma. And now, I want to tend towards this profession. So want to learn, want to transmit especially and that the youngest can take advantage of that.
